This role involves fostering positive relationships, providing mentorship, and creating a safe and supportive environment where young people can learn and grow.
Job Responsibilities
- Implement age-appropriate programs and activities that align with the organization’s mission and goals. These programs include Literacy, Art, Athletics, and Character building.
- Foster positive relationships with youth participants, families, and community members.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to youth, supporting their personal and academic growth.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during program hours.
- Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate events, field trips, and other program logistics.
- Maintain accurate records of program attendance, incidents, and participant progress.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding program updates and participant achievements.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Uphold organizational policies and procedures, including those related to safety, health, and behavior management.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements based on participant feedback and outcomes.
Qualifications and Characteristics Required
- High school diploma or equivalent GED
- Experience working with youth in a formal or informal educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting youth development.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Must be 18 years or older
Additional Information
- Shift schedule: Monday - - Friday approximately 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M Additional hours allotted for lesson plans, activity planning, special events, staff training and staff meetings.
- Monthly Saturday staff training: One Saturday of the month approximately 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Brenham Unit.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments depending on program activities.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must list 3 references (non-family members).
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
